Bass Bennett Rides
About
Bass Bennett rides is the creative outlet of Naomi Bennett, an award (she/her), an award-winning composer and double bassist with over 31 years of experience in the music industry.
This project combines her passions: original music, playing bass, and motorcycle riding. She creates music inspired by the feeling of the open road while sharing authentic riding experiences to convey her artistry through a unique fusion of beats and bikes.
"The privilege of riding and playing the bass are when I feel the most free. I can truly be myself, and that is a gift not easily attained."
-Naomi Bennett
Bio
For 31 years, music has been the driving force in my life. My journey began as a violinist, but for the past 23 years, the double bass has been my true calling. Under the tutelage of Jeff Grubbs of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, I honed my skills before earning my master’s in double bass performance from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 2021, studying with Rachel Calin.
The double bass captivated me with its low, calming tones and its unique duality – a supportive backbone in ensembles and an intriguing solo instrument. As a freelance bassist, I bring this verasitility to various ensembles while also exploring my creative side through composing bass solos, duets, and even a modern opera currently in the works.
My musical palette is as diverse as my interests, spanning rock, rap, hiphop, pop, classical, jazz and more. I’ve always seen bassists as the unsung heroes of music – the supporting actors who elevate the entire performance. My approach is rooted in sensitivity to other musicians around me, creating engaging and fulfilling experiences for listeners.
But my passions extend beyond the stage. Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated by anything with an engine – particularly motorcycles. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of drawing beautiful lines on the road, whether it’s riding into a breathtaking sunrise or gliding under a starlit sky. These rides offer a perfect counterpoint to my musical life, allowing me to clear my mind and find inspiration as well.
In both music and motorcycling, I find freedom, expression, and a deep connection to the world around me. Whether I’m performing in an ensemble, showcasing the bass as a solo instrument, or feeling the wind on a long ride, I’m always seeking that perfect harmony between technique and emotion; power and subtlety.
So, I created BassBennettRides as a way to combine both of my passions and share them with you. Wind therapy with some great music is a hard combo to beat.
